We now communicate through screens, work with strangers, broadcast opinions to large audiences and interact across cultures and time zones. The result is a strange mismatch.
Your brain may respond intensely to a minor social mistake because it has evolved to care about social consequences. Your rational mind may simultaneously recognise that the mistake is inconsequential.
Both responses can be true.
The emotional response is real. The event can still be objectively minor.

Not every unwanted memory is a problem. Sometimes remembering an uncomfortable experience is exactly what allows you to improve.
